For another year at the Surface Design Show, Senior Partner Tim Gledstone took part in a panel discussion alongside Róisín Lafferty and Giulliana Giorgi, hosted by Matt Robb of the Stone Federation Great Britain. Together, they discussed the use and implementation of natural stone at both small and large scales.
The panel explored stone’s journey from quarry to building, highlighting its rich material diversity, expressive potential and the industrial challenges it presents.
Reflecting on his experience designing with natural stone, Tim noted that a slightly whimsical decision made early on can define a project, one he has never looked back from. When given the right context, less popular stones can be the most expressive, striking a balance between sentimentality and temperance.
