Hotel Designs' Roundtable: the art of bespoke and the future of hotel design

August 2026

What does it take to deliver bespoke design and customisation in hospitality?

Our Associate Interior Designer Tom Davison recently took part in Hotel Designs' intimate roundtable in collaboration with award-winning lighting manufacturer Franklite to explore the art of bespoke, and how to deliver it with integrity across every budget and brief.

Hosted during Clerkenwell Design Week, Tom contributed to the discussion of the importance lighting has on a hotel's first impression: "Bad lighting is always noticeable. But good lighting, you don't notice it at all. You simply have an emotional connection to the space."

For Tom, bespoke is fundamentally a mindset rather than a budget, and constraints often sharpen customisation instead of limiting it. True customisation means designing with purpose rather than extravagance, which demands that designers, manufacturers and suppliers collaborate from the outset.

The detail no one notices but everyone feels.
