Now in its fourth year, our award-winning Winter Windows is a collaboration between a group of local school-aged children and architects and model makers from Squire & Partners.
Having previously worked with younger children on the annual community project, in 2020 the practice addressed the acute lack of opportunity for young people locally during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Collaborating with community organisation We Rise, five Year 13 students (age 17-18) from Elm Green and Norwood secondary schools took part in a series of socially-distanced workshops and online tutorials with architects and modelmakers at Squire & Partners.
The students not only designed the installation, but developed new skills in creative collaboration, design development, software, making and visual display. The final result created a portfolio piece for each student to take forward into their further education or career choices.
The designs create a continuous narrative along the windows, addressing issues the students and their communities have faced during 2020.
