Winter Windows 2017

Lambeth, London

Winter Windows at The Department Store was a collaboration between designers and modelmakers from Squire and Partners and a group of children aged 8-11 from Stockwell Primary School. Over the course of two workshops run by the practice, children were challenged to create expressive winter shapes using a continuous line of light. The children created vibrant designs varying from spiral-eyed bears and expressions of love to explosions of excitement! A panel of judges from Squire and Partners had intended to select a single winner, but were so impressed by the children’s creativity that they chose eight designs. The modelshop team then translated these into individual window illuminations. Occupying an entire glazing panel along the street, each bespoke light is made using a sheet of Perspex with a coloured LED light set into a CNC cut channel.
