Squire and Partners believes education is the foundation of good design, and an important investment in the future of the industry. Supported by a dedicated Education team, the practice actively takes part in a variety of initiatives and organisations, from mentorship programmes - including Open City, Stephen Lawrence Building Futures and Budding Brunels - to university lectures, crits and in-house study groups.
Budding Brunels is a programme we’ve been involved with since 2015, designed to give 16–18 year olds first-hand experience of employment opportunities within the construction industry. Over three days, mentors from Squire and Partners and other construction professionals highlight different roles from project manager to surveyor to architect.
Open City Accelerate
Every year since its inception, Squire and Partners has worked with students from Open City as part of their pioneering Accelerate programme, aimed at increasing diversity in the architecture profession. Mentoring young people over several months, we help them create a professional portfolio and final presentation, which acts as a springboard for their future education and employment.
Stephen Lawrence Building Futures Programme
Since 2017 Squire and Partners has been part of the Stephen Lawrence Building Futures programme, offering work experience and one-on-one mentoring for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented groups to study and qualify as architects.
Our in-house Education team organises a Part III group which meets weekly to support staff with their studies by providing information and seminars relevant to obtaining their final qualification as practicing architects.
Representatives from Squire and Partners regularly visit universities to share the practice’s experience through lectures and crits. Recent lectures have included Michael Squire at the University of Dundee, and Henry Squire at the University of Westminster and the School of Architecture at Yale, USA.
Squire and Partners offers work experience opportunities for aspiring architects, model makers or designers all year round. Assigned mentors guide students throughout the different departments in the office including Architecture, Interior Design, Modelshop, CGI, Illustration and Branding.
