From being “a lightning rod for opponents” to leaving a legacy that “outlives his critics and rivals”, the second life of Richard Seifert’s architecture is examined by Jon Morrison in a recent article for The Spectator.
Focusing on the recently completed sensitive refurbishment of Space House for seaforth land, Morrison interviewed Senior Partner Tim Gledstone about the wave of brutalist buildings being given a second lease of life. In the piece, Tim details how working with the expressive and strong existing structure enabled the creation of a premium workspace building that “should be good for another 80 to 100 years”, which Morrison describes as “a template for other buildings from the period that haven’t yet been destroyed.”
