St Marys Wharf granted planning

November 2022

Squire & Partners has been granted planning to transform the 1.7-acre former Guildford Debenhams department store site into a vibrant mixed-use destination for Native Land.

The development will feature two new fossil-fuel free buildings with zero emissions in operation, designed by Squire & Partners to respond to the surrounding heritage of the area.

Partner Henry Squire said ‘St. Mary’s Wharf will regenerate an important part of Guildford’s town centre by providing a new public square, riverside walk and pocket park, breathing new life and animation into the public realm. The seven- and eight-storey buildings draw on local materials and details to create a composition that will enhance the conservation area and provide a beautiful addition to Guildford’s architectural landscape.’

Proposals for the riverside site will deliver the highest quality housing alongside lifestyle amenities for both residents and the wider community. St. Mary’s Wharf will comprise 185 private and affordable homes, 21,000 sq ft of retail and restaurant space, and almost an acre of newly created riverside public realm. The buildings will be all-electric and net zero carbon in operation.
