Lambeth Council have approved plans which confirm Squire and Partners’ relocation from King’s Cross to Brixton. The consented scheme includes The Department Store – a disused Edwardian annexe to the Bon Marche store – which will be restored, refurbished and extended to accommodate the practice, as well as housing an independent bar/restaurant (also owned by Squire and Partners).

The development includes a refurbishment of the former Fire Station and Stables to provide a new location for Brixton Post Office and three units for local creative businesses. The office comprises 4,767sq m of design studio including a new social rooftop space expressed as a series of pavilions, a staff café, gallery/seminar space, modelshop and facilities for staff including cycle storage, showers and a landscaped garden courtyard. The Department Store concept is intended to showcase the different elements of Squire and Partners’ work including installations, interior design, product design, illustration, modelmaking and CGI as well as architecture.
