Squire and Partners’ design for a landmark 37-storey residential tower in Elephant & Castle was granted planning consent last night. Southwark Council also granted planning permission for a £20 million state-of-the-art community leisure centre to the west of the St Mary’s site, designed by John McAslan and Partners. The St Mary’s development will provide 284 new homes, shops, restaurants and creative business space in addition to communal gardens and landscaping connecting the development to the adjacent community park. Designed to be exemplary in terms of sustainability, the St Mary’s development aims to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4.
