Tower Bridge Visitors CentreImages1 / Information
Location London SE1
Status Completed 1993
Squire and Partners was commissioned to design new visitor facilities for Tower Bridge, to be completed to mark its centenary in 1994. The new entrance building and ticket office, a simple structure of painted steel in-filled with cladding panels of glass and terrazzo, stands on one of the main piers. Its lightweight, airy aesthetic provides a striking contrast to the monumentality of the Bridge.
The curved form of the new building follows the profile of the existing pier. It is designed to provide both a place for visitors to queue for admission and a clear route for pedestrians crossing the Bridge.
