Location Southwark, London
Status Planning consent 2019
Description
Located on Park Street in Southwark, TIDE Bankside was granted planning consent in December 2019, on behalf of client La Salle Investment. The new mixed use development extends the cultural regeneration of Bankside eastwards, drawing activity from Tate Modern and the Globe Theatre.
The workspace-led building references the industrial warehouse vernacular of Bankside with robust facades comprising brick, glass and dark bronze coloured metal. These elements are softened with sculptural brick columns and a curved roofline on the upper levels, relating to the erosive tidal flow of the nearby River Thames. A setback colonnade at street level and loggia at 8th floor establish a hierarchy across the facades, with recessed glazing aiding the transition between levels.
Entrance to a café/retail unit is located on the chamfered corner of Park Street and Emerson Street, defined by a finely crafted tapered column at the axis. A mixture of commercial and affordable workspace is provided over eleven floors, accessed via Emerson Street, with the retail unit addressing Park Street. Generous outside terraces with planting feature on the upper levels, whilst the new colonnade at street level creates an animated pedestrian route.
Enhancements to public realm include the expansion of an existing consented courtyard at neighbouring 133 Park Street, providing additional landscaped public space. Natural granite paving is combined with planting of grasses, trees and flowering plants to enhance biodiversity and create an attractive environment for the local business and residential community.
