Thames Street is a residential-led development close to Greenwich town centre which delivers high-quality apartments within a pair of buildings that respond to their riverside context.
The accommodation offers a mixture of private and affordable apartments which target Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4, complemented by community space and flexible commercial units animating the ground floor.
In creating a building which knits itself into the local community and revives a portion of the riverfront, designs draw on the site history and context. Two distinct blocks are unified by the metal that wraps around the base of the building at ground and first floors. Strong vertical elements relate to timber piles which traditionally support the river wall.
Above ground level, historical metalwork trades inform the zinc-clad riverside block, while brick façades to the south block respond to existing buildings within the local Conservation Area. The two buildings are tied together with a series of stone bands which articulate each floor, creating a legible development which creates value on this prominent waterfront site.
