Squire & Partners have designed four buildings within the final phase of the Chelsea Barracks masterplan.
Three of the four buildings provide the affordable housing for the scheme, consisting of intermediate and socially rented homes, as well as extra care senior living homes and a sports centre. 126 affordable homes will be provided in total, as well as an NHS Medical Centre designed by Piercy & Company.
The residential buildings facing Ebury Bridge Road draw reference from the surrounding streets around St Barnabas Church, and have been designed to counter the varied mix of architectural styles and materiality across the area. Though not identical, the buildings utilise a similar palette of materials and details, including limestone, light-coloured brick and bronze accents.
Building 20 wraps around the corner of the site and acts as a gateway to the masterplan. The building’s design, with a strongly expressed base, middle and top, combined with the palette of materials used, creates a link between the classically ordered facades on Chelsea Bridge Road and the more domestic character buildings on Ebury Bridge Road.
