One Southbank Place forms part of Squire & Partners’ mixed use masterplan for this iconic location, that aims to reconnect Waterloo station with the established cultural and open spaces along the South Bank. The building delivers a major new international headquarters for Shell, while remaining physically connected via glazed bridge links to the original 1950s Shell Building that stands at the heart of the development.
The building is conceived as a series of stepped stone-framed elements linked by double-height glazed atria that provide breakout spaces and create connectivity between floors. The façade design draws upon the materials and proportions of the existing Shell Tower and other nearby Portland Stone buildings such as the Royal Festival Hall. Bronze anodized fins provide a crown detail to the top floors of the building.
