Squire and Partners were approached to design a masterplan for a new community on a site of approximately 700,000m2. The key criteria were to preserve the existing character of the site, to merge the natural and built environment, and to provide a coherent strategy for the area’s regeneration and development.

The key criteria were to preserve the existing character of the site, to merge the natural and built environment, and to provide a coherent strategy for the area’s regeneration and development.
Another aim was to conserve a large part of the citrus plantations, so the Masterplan proposes a light as possible intervention on the land. The west of the site consists of low level residential villas amongst the citrus trees, which gradually increase in density towards the industrial land to the east.
The scheme creates a ‘town centre’ adjacent to the existing eucalyptus forest, which acts as a public space and provide a link to the residential development. The site’s orientation and circulation routes capitalise on the long views to the distant Troodos Mountains to the north and the salt marshland to the south.
