Squire & Partners has designed ‘Cirrus’, the final piece of the Albany Marina residential masterplan situated on New Providence Island in the Bahamas.
Won as part of a design competition in 2021, the development is Squire & Partners’ second project within the Marina. Cirrus sits alongside neighbouring residences designed by international architects including Bjarke Ingels and Morris Adjmi.
The development houses 14 private residences over nine stories. Two generously sized apartments featuring 20 ft by 70 ft terraces with custom designed feature pools occupy each floor. A pair of duplex penthouses benefitting from a double height terrace with rooftop pools and gardens crown the development.
Cirrus’ design takes inspiration from its adjacent residences and seeks to mediate the design language of the two buildings, fusing the horizontal lines of Squire – also designed by Squire & Partners – with the concave curves of Coral. Named after a cloud formation, Cirrus’ design features respond to the organic shapes and natural beauty of the Island, notably local sea life and the reflections of the passing clouds on the water in this unique coastal setting.
The external façade has been developed in response to the undulating floor plate, with two sections that interconnect to encase the primary structure and conceal the interconnection between the two apartments. Frameless glass balustrades allow each residence panoramic views across the Marina and to the ocean beyond, blurring indoor and outdoor living. A white stucco render references the reflection of passing clouds on the Marina’s water and ensures harmony with the neighbouring buildings.
