Squire & Partners designed the concept for a new luxury resort Hotel in Saudi Arabia.
The design responds to the traditional local architecture whilst fusing it with the landscape to create a rich tapestry of built and unbuilt form.
Traditional Najdi architectural techniques are employed such as tight clusters of buildings around open spaces to create harmonious and interactive forms. These respond to the harsh desert climate and reduce the need for mechanical systems.
Located in the heart of the site are two courtyards interwoven with the surrounding buildings which incorporate a reception area, lounge and café, retail units and a business centre.
Responding to the traditional textures of the local vernacular, the façade design consists of rough and smooth elements inspired by Najdi architecture. This concept is carried through the interiors of the hotel to create a harmonious design throughout.
