The client’s aspirations for the site housing the 1938 Ford factory in Bucharest was to create a high end district for living, shopping and working, that would form a landmark gateway to the city. Public open spaces, international brand shopping, restaurants, a 5* hotel and iconic HQ offices were to be provided, as well as a series of high end residential parkside towers.
The Ford Factory was viewed as symbol of strength, durability and ambition for international commerce and relations. The external shell of the factory holds and formalises a framework for the new life of the site.
The buildings work together to create a single composition rising from, and contrasting with, the robust shell of the factory.
Landscaping is designed to create public realm and semi-private external space. In particular the scheme creates a new link between Calea Floreasca and the park, and prioritises pedestrian circulation around the site.
