Squire & Partners worked with Pursuing Independent Paths (PIP) – an organisation that supports adults with learning disabilities to achieve their potential – alongside Laing O’Rourke and Ruddy Joinery, on expanding PIP’s existing space which was unsuitable for many planned activities. Our designs introduced a new kitchen and education space, allowing students to practice independent living skills.
The new space provides flexible areas for workshops, practical activities and office work, created by connecting the existing area into a neighbouring unit. We also donated desks and computers and our Illustration department created a series of graphics incorporating the students and their artwork for the space. We were delighted to be awarded British Land’s Community Charter Supplier of the Year Award in 2014, but most importantly the project was a huge success for the PIP staff and students.
Squire & Partners was keen to continue the relationship with PIP. Our Modelshop devised and led a two-part workshop during which students were supervised in the assembling, decorating and installing of their own birdhouse, working with a prototype which was easy to assemble and customise. The project was incredibly popular with staff and students, and generated a great deal of enthusiasm, as well as encouraging new skills.
