The design takes inspiration from the movement and fluidity of dance, and responds to the pattern of stroboscopic movement created by a ballet dancer in motion, with external timber fins expressing sweeping curves and bends.
Five separate blocks are connected via a central open hub where staff, students and parents can meet, rehearse and socialise. Blocks differ in height in response to their function – double height studios are provided for larger performance and dances featuring aerial acrobatics.
Other uses include dressing rooms, recording studio, cafe, meeting facilities, classrooms, gymnasium and a creche.
