Squire and Partners has designed a new home for bats at Polgaver Beach in Carlyon Bay. The project opened in March of 2015 by the chairman of St Blaise Town Council, June Anderson, and pupils from Biscovey Academy in Par.
Squire and Partners has designed a new home for bats at Polgaver Beach in Carlyon Bay. The project opened in March of 2015 by the chairman of St Blaise Town Council, June Anderson, and pupils from Biscovey Academy in Par.
The designs follow detailed consultations with ecologists Baker Consultants, and provide an alternative habitat for local bats that may have been roosting in the existing Coliseum building. Measuring five metres square and nine metres tall, the simple pitched form is clad in cedar shingles with a variety of access points providing an ideal roosting environment.
Located close to the cliff face in a woodland setting, the bat house directly addresses their established feeding route, and is orientated east-west to give a south facing aspect to the pitched roof. The bat house is part of a larger ecology management strategy to promote biodiversity on Polgaver.
