Squire and Partners’ Interiors and Modelshop teams have created a new store for Pure Vinyl, a vinyl record shop owned and curated by Brixton local Claudia Wilson which forms part of the practice’s development of The Department Store. The vision for evolving this corner of Brixton was to foster a community of passionate and creative people from different disciplines.

Bespoke storage was created using a blackened tube scaffolding system with black birch plywood shelving to hold the shop’s large collection of Jazz, Soul, Reggae and World Music. The design provides an organised structure for Claudia’s substantial vinyl collection and can be easily modified over time. Raw finishes on the walls provide a backdrop for a changing vinyl display and an illuminated ‘Pure Vinyl’ sign in white fluorescent tubes acts as an iconic centrepiece of the shop.

Full height Crittall windows frame a vibrant green graphic at low level, and offer views of the turntables and vinyl display. The new shop acts as a hub for residents and visitors, and provides an exciting focal point for South London's resurgent vinyl community.
