Description
Ask Property Development and Manchester City Council instructed Squire and Partners to remodel over 15 acres of public land in a central Manchester location known as Central Spine. The proposals deliver approximately 2.5 million sq ft of mixed use accommodation along with a sequence of major new public spaces.
Designed to create a new city quarter which will be one of the most sustainable and environmentally conscious in the city, the scheme includes green roofs and living facades, rainwater harvesting and neighbourhood heating plants. Proposals for Central Spine include retaining a number of significant buildings; therefore the new framework integrates proposals which extend into the reinstated grid of streets allowing phased development over the next 10 years.
Manchester City Council chief executive Sir Howard Bernstein described the scheme as ‘the most significant development opportunity in Manchester’.
