200 AldersgateImages1 / Information
Location City of London, London
Status Completed 2009
Description
The existing building at 200 Aldersgate, providing 40,000 sq m of office space, had lain empty since 2003 due to a lack of flexibility, no visual transparency at ground level, and poorly defined entrance spaces which denied the building an identity. Squire and Partners were commissioned to carry out a major refurbishment of the building, revitalising it to meet the needs of modern businesses in the City of London.
The scheme, completed in early 2009, remodelled existing office entrances and added retail and restaurant uses at street level. The works have transformed the commercial value and culture of 200 Aldersgate and the surrounding streetscape by opening up the building at pavement level. New retail activities and transparent reception entrances serve to animate the building frontage and provide a clear identity for the building.
