Urban Golf Smithfield
Location London EC1
Status Completed 2006
Urban Golf Smithfield was the second outlet for Urban Golf, and reinterprets the genre for the very different atmosphere of its next premises, to the south of Smithfields meat market. The full height murals this time document the transition from the harsh reality of the butcher with his knife, to a scene of golfing paradise behind the reception.
The golf booths surround a central space containing the reception, putting green and bar. Each booth is accessed by a separate archway, through a wall covered with bespoke wallpaper designed in conjunction with Mammal. Screens of sage green tiled walls reminiscent of the market mark the entrance to the booths, while in the toilets deep burgundy tiles remind us of the market’s contents. Each booth has a back-lit number, with the number ‘19’ on the bar indicating the final port of call.
