Description

Clapham Park Road – one of a series of developments undertaken by the practice – involved the substantial refurbishment of an existing 1960′s office building on a corner site in Clapham.  Having sat vacant for over a year, the building required a fundamental change from an unattractive, dated urban block, to a modern contextual development that exploited its prominent corner location.

 

Squire and Partners’ scheme addresses the imposing dark grey spandrel panels by rendering and painting them white, whilst original windows were replaced and set within new deep oak frames to soften and break down the facade.  New fully glazed corner window units were created at the prominent junction of Clapham Park Road and Northbourne Road.

 

The ground floor was opened up to the street with floor to ceiling glazing, offering views into the commercial units and cafe space.  A mezzanine level inserted at ground floor maximises the lettable space, and creates individual office units aimed at small independent companies.
