R3 King’s Cross

Location Lewis Cubitt Park, King's Cross

Status Planning consented November 2015

Granted planning consent in November 2015, R3 King’s Cross is Squire and Partners’ first building in the King’s Cross Central development.  The 61 apartment scheme occupies a prime position between Lewis Cubitt Park and Jellicoe Gardens, with a design which knits into the evolving urban setting and references the surrounding natural landscape.

The long narrow plot lends itself to two prominent elevations facing open spaces to the west and east.  Designs establish a strong visual and physical connection between the two gardens with a central glazed residential entrance, and apartment layouts which ensure that all residences enjoy park views, many with dual aspect.  In a nod to the former industrial character of King’s Cross, the design creates a pair of warehouse style buildings offset with an elegant contemporary envelope.

Façades are characterised by iterations of a pattern generated from a dense network of railway tracks combined with a secondary layer emulating the dappled light created by a tree canopy.  The result is an organic pattern used across the façades in decorative latticed screens, solid pressed aluminium panels and laser etched stonework.
