Carlyon Bay on the south Cornwall coast provides a unique opportunity for regeneration in an area with a rich cultural heritage and spectacular natural setting. Squire and Partners has been appointed to design a sustainable residential community with associated leisure facilities on Shorthorn beach, with a mixture of apartment buildings, beach houses and beachfront villas with decks and terraces enjoying views across the bay.
Designs draw on the rich heritage, identity and natural geography of Cornwall, using local materials and an appropriate building vernacular which is planned to have a minimal impact on the natural beauty of the coastline. As well as introducing new buildings and uses, the development includes the construction of improved sea defences, new coastal footpaths and the creation of a nature reserve providing wildlife habitats for native species of plants, birds and animals.
